Maiolica

Maiolica es el termino que designa una formación geológica que se puede encontrar en el sur de Europa y que corresponde a depósitos que abarcan desde el jurásico (Tithónico) hasta finales de cretácico inferior.

Maiolica es el término tradicional, en la terminología de la cantera, con el que este tipo de roca era conocida en la Lombardia, y fue formalizado en la literatura italiana como nombre de esta unidad geológica por Antonio Stoppani (1857).
